Costumes and Lighting.
When creating a film, the costumes of the characters starring in each scene needs to be given a lot of thought. Depending on what the character is wearing, reflects a lot about the person as a character as well as the mood in scene. If the person is wearing bright vibrant colours, we can recognise that they feel good about themselves and the film will be upbeat and happy, perhaps a comedy, whereas if we were to see another character in dark colours, dressing down, we would be able to create an impression that the person is perhaps a miserable and depressed character that has no self esteem.
Lighting is an important effect to use when filming a movie. The way in which the lights are positioned in a scene, reflects the mood in the scene to help the audience stay focused on the upcoming events that are about to happen and help to keep the mood of the film the way the director planned when creating the film.
By mixing costume and lighting effects, a range of ideas can be created. For example, having a young character wearing bright pyjamas with dark lighting shows a strong sense of danger and vulnerability in the scene. This type of idea will be suitable for our media piece. We want to try and attract our target audience by making them experience the mood of the opening scene in a way that will draw them in to watch the clip with interest of a horror movie.
